Dust Sheriff
-The Most Effective, Highest Flow Rate Shop Vac Cyclone Dust Collector on the Market-
Never Have to Clean Your Shop Vac filter Again.

Spend more time making, building, and fixing and less time cleaning.

Plans   $9.95                                                              Optional   Hardware kit   $24.95
The   Dust Sheriff    is the first and only cyclone separator on the market to incorporate an  (optional)   integrated filter inside of the cyclone.    You will   NEVER   have to clean a filter again!    With the optional filter installed the Dust Sheriff captures over 99.5% of the dust larger than 0.5 microns.

The Dust Sheriff connects in line with your shop vac to remove more dust than any other shop vac cyclone dust collector on the market.  Even without the integrated filter installed the Dust Sheriff removes 5x more fine dust than the leading cyclone separator system and  allows 30% more airflow!  Those are both huge benefits, not to mention that you can build the Dust Sheriff  (Simple version) for less than $15!  Even less if you have some of the common materials already.

The Dust Sheriff offers   three advantages    over  the Dust Deputy and Dustopper cyclone dust collectors:
1.  It flows 30% to 45% more airflow
2.  It collects 5x to 15x more fine dust
3.  It costs less than $15 to make
 (Simple version)

Detailed specifications and test results are presented in   this article.

Plans     include:
  • Detailed step-by-step instructions to walk you through every detail of the build process.
  • 3D Figures and dimensioned drawings with the exact measurements I used to obtain this high performance level.
  • Advanced  fabrication tips
  • The plans also include a exclusive add-on feature that will keep the filter  cleaner even longer.

This hardware kit   will  turn this into no-hassle build that you can have up and running   in one hour!
 Hardware kit    includes:
  •  Inlet Pipe  - with round to rectangular transition for higher collection efficiency
  • Templates for the Dust Baffle Plate and Outlet Tube Stiffener
  • Outlet Pipe Assembly - Preassembled and   ready to install!
                                Outlet Pipe plug
Filter plug (used only  if optional filter is installed)
                                  Baffle bolt
                                  Baffle Nut

Frequently asked questions:

1.    Are you bending the laws of physics to get higher flow AND higher collection   efficiency?
Answer:
There's no magic.   The leading cyclones have built in flaws that cause high flow restrictions.  The Dust Sheriff design also converts the kinetic energy created in the cyclone back to pressure head much more efficiently than any other shop vac cyclone.

2.   Can I use any 5-gallon bucket to make the Simple version?
Answer:
Maybe.    The Lowes 5-gallon bucket lids will now work for this design.  There may be other bucket/lid combinations that work but I've only tested the Home Depot bucket and lid combo.

3.   I have a Dust Deputy and it doesn't pass any dust.  How can this pass 5x less dust?
Answer:
The Dust Deputy and Dustopper cyclones are very effective at removing coarse dust particles.   However, the Dust Sheriff  passes 1/5th as much fine dust (I used corn starch for my tests) as the Dust Deputy and 1/15th as much as the Dustopper with the filter removed.

No cyclone is very efficient for particles under 10 microns.  However, with    the filter installed, the Dust Sheriff can be used with no filter on the shop vac.    However, I recommend using the shop vac filter for a second line of defense anyway.  Since it will stay very clean you will never have to clean it again.
